Goodness gracious me

I haven't posted in a while huh. And it's a new year. Might as well:

New Year's Resolution:

1. Procrastinate less.
2. Sleep more (1 and 2 are pretty much the same idea)
3. Speak up more.
4. Live, laugh, and love.

Eh, the last one was more of a general thing. I try to do that most every day, and be grateful for my life every day.

First semester report card:

An A in everything except Calculus BC, which, considering my colorful grades at every five-week report card, is fantastic. I revived my Studio Art grade from the dead, finally pulled up my perpetual B in Computer Science, and just managed to snatch an A- in Government. Calculus...well...will just have to do for now.

Ah, a new year. Predictably I still labeled dates with an '0' first, then realizing it and squeezing in the '1' later. Now I write out '2010' so I won't be confused.

College Applications:

Since my last post, I finished all my applications!!! Yay!!! For WashU I actually ended up applying for another scholarship in the last week and realized some things that I could regret. But I'm trying not to regret them.

Now it's just interview season and I'm prepping for that. =\ State of mind? Nervous.

Weather:

It rained all of finals week. Isn't that just joyful? It really timed itself well. But the hail was a plus. I hadn't seen something close to snow in over a year. It was nice, albeit loud and jeopardizing of our leaky roofs and walls. -_- California houses.

Currently reading: Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. It's fun to see people react when I say "It's not for school."

Homework:

Not much yet since it's the start of a new semester, but DCE is still ongoing. Need more research.
Piano:

I still disappoint my teacher. Need practice.

Other:

Preparing for school's Lipsync event. Gotta do something shamelessly. The worst part of it is, I'm actually really looking forward to it. Can you believe that I'm preparing to dance like this?

Best regards,

Heidy

Eywa is awesome

Yes, I watched Avatar today. In 3D. It was pretty awesome, but I have issues with it.

Yes, the graphics were really amazing and the three-dimensional aspect of it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, unlike those "4-D" things at theme parks. *shudder* It was definitely an enjoyable experience to watch it, with all its fluorescent foliage, action-packed flying sequences, and the typical "epic hero's journey" plotline, even though I neglected to wear contacts and so wore two pairs of glasses the duration of the 3-hour film. Oh! And I noticed the year: 2154

What I didn't like was the 1) predictable characters and plotline, 2) people dying (I generally do not enjoy this anyway) and 3) how easily the hero threw away Earth and his own people and joined the Nav'i. I mean, how do you know you really want to stay somewhere after three months and abandon everything you knew of growing up? How would the humans remaining there sustain themselves without correspondence with Earth if they shooed away everyone else? (Maybe the sequel will explain some things). And last, will characters please stop falling in love this way? People naturally get close to those they are near, so you wouldn't find your perfect match if you never had enough time with them. For the purposes of the movie, they had the hero and heroine match up, which always annoys me slightly.

Watch it for the entertainment. Better than Transformers 2 at any rate.
